MATTERPORT FAQ:
What is your Coronavirus policy for safely entering properties?
Hopscotch Interactive is following the CDC Guidelines and the CAR best practices for social distancing and safety during the Coronavirus pandemic. We require all of our personnel to wear a mask, gloves, and shoe coverings when entering into a property. We will also wipe-down any surfaces we touch with any disinfectant provided by a seller or seller's representative. We will also wipe-down keys and lockboxes upon exiting the property. Furthermore, we require the PEAD form to be signed by the agent. The situation is evolving and we are staying up-to-date on the latest recommendations from the local health authorities as well as the CAR. Please contact us if you have a question about this particular topic, or if you have an occupied property and would like to discuss a strategy for marketing.
What is your service area?
We operate primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area (including Sacramento) and Portland, Oregon. We also arrange for media services worldwide via our network, including site surveys.
What will be photographed?
This depends on your booking, but our approach is to document as much as we can while we are on site, because we believe this results in the best and most useful assets for marketing.
Can a Matterport Camera be used outdoors and can I connect two separate buildings like a studio or detached garage into one scan?
The camera's infrared sensor is not designed for outdoor use, due to sunlight interference. Depending on sunlight conditions, limited areas such as a covered patio or deck might be able to be included in the tour, but are not guaranteed. 360° panoramas can be taken any time of day, and those can be added to highlight reels and can include key outdoor features such as backyards, rooftops, street view, or any other point of interest. For a detached garage or outbuilding, we usually have to create a second scan and connect them through a Mattertag or deep-link in the model.
How long will it take?
3D photography generally takes longer than still photography. For a quality scan, plan on 45 minutes per 1,000 square feet, plus time for set-up and planning. A 3,000 square foot home will take approximately 2 hours to complete, but may take longer depending on the furnishings and number of floors.
Do you stage or rearrange anything?
No, unless a Realtor or homeowner is there to approve of us moving anything, we will not change the position of any items. From time to time we will need to prop open doors, or move a curtain, but this is only to obtain the optimal lighting for the scan. We are always reachable by text or cell during a shoot should questions arise.
What is a scan?
A scan refers to the use of the Matterport Vision System to capture both the photographs (textures), and the infrared light (scan data) that makes up the model and then is processed and stitched in the cloud. The camera uses an infrared scanner to create the dollhouse view and to get structural information about the space, from this we can derive measurements, volumes and floor plans.
Can you blur or edit an image from the scan?
Yes, we can set the system to detect faces and we can manually blur with the digital blur brush (Matterport only). In Matterport, we are also unable to trim vertically, so depending on the shape of the ceiling, it's possible some digital artifacts will be visible in the dollhouse view. With still photography we can blur everything, but not for the Matterport shoots or for the Zillow 3D Home Tours. With still photography anything can be blurred or edited, by request, additional fees may apply.
Can you adjust any of the colors or white-balance once the model has been shot?
With the sophisticated high-dynamic range processing (HDR), we rely on the camera to adjust the colors and white-balance so there is no way to do this in post-production.
If I want more media after the shoot, can I order it later?
Yes! We have had clients come to us months later wanting to have new snapshots taken, floor plans created, or even movies made. Once we have done an initial scan, we are happy to provide you with other media from the original 3D model (a la carte pricing will apply).
How soon after the shoot is the model ready?
The first draft of the model is typically ready within 24 hours and you will be sent a link to view the model and you may request any changes like hiding a particular scan. We send the model as soon as it's been thoroughly reviewed by our team, and we have prepared all deliverables. Any changes, or reprocessing will delay the delivery of the final model.
Can you be alone at a property and let yourself in and out?
If we have been given a lockbox code (manual lockbox), then yes, we are fully capable of letting ourselves in and out of properties and securing them upon exit. We typically send a text message to the owner or Realtor once we have finished, and will be in communication while we are on site if we have any questions.
Is there a hosting fee?
Yes, there is a monthly or an annual hosting fee associated with the uploading and hosting of models, depending on what you ordered. You may also get a personal account and store one free model; and so that is a possibility if you want us to transfer a model to you for your own hosting.
What is Matterport's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use they pertain to the Scans?
We always require that our customers review the Matterport 3D Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Service, as these are the legal agreements to which we, as a Matterport Service Partner, are bound and these policies extend to the use of any Matterport media that you book through us.
